A song about two best friends who are very obviously in love with each other, but for some reason known only to them - perhaps they don't want to risk their friendship? Perhaps one of them is already in a relationship with someone else? - without ever even talking about it, they've both agreed not to act on it.
It's clearly been this way for some time, but it's reached the point where, for the protagonist of this song, it's become unbearable, even though they'll never say so.
I hope for their sake that the future allows them to find each other properly.
